Zehnder HRV Controller (ZCTRL) |
The ZCTRL system mitigates the impact of bad outdoor air on the indoor environment, particularly during wildfire season. Because HRVs are designed to continuously exchange indoor and outdoor air, if the outdoor air is bad, then so is the indoor air. The ZCTRL hardware and software “throttle” a Zehnder HRV by reading a PM2.5 AQI measurement over WiFi from a PurpleAir Outdoor Sensor and changing the HRV 0-10V speed control input proportionally. If the outdoor AQI is low, the controller will set the HRV at its nominal speed. As the outdoor AQI increases, the controller will decrease the HRV fan speed and if the outdoor AQI becomes hazardous, the controller will turn off the HRV entirely.
ZCTRL is packaged in a small enclosure that connects directly to
the Zehnder HRV. WiFi coverage near the point of installation is required and
installation must be performed by a qualified technician.
A companion iOS app provides setup and configuration capability as well real-time monitoring of current status.
